Project Energise

Bubba from Project Energise came to show Room 57 the best way to run fast and jump high.

We all pretended to be superhero's and ran as fast as we could.

Welcome back to Term 4!!!

Gosh I can hardly believe it is Term 4 already and it is going to be a crazy busy term.

We started off the term with a wonderful problem solving activity.

We had to create a tower with newspaper as tall as the tallest person in our group.

It was really a challenge but we did come up with some very creative ideas.

We voted! Did you?

On Friday Room 57 voted.

We learnt about the process and the importance of voting.

On Monday we are going to tally our results and see who Room 57 thought should run the country.

Te Wiki o te Reo Māori

This week is Maori language week.
We spent the afternoon with Room 13 and listened to the legend of the Taniwha of Wellington Harbour.
We then coloured our own Taniwha to show at assembly on Friday.

Yum, yum, yum!!!

It only took 5 days for our cress seeds to be ready to harvest.

We buttered our own bread and cut the tops off our cress plants and then put them in our sandwich.

We really weren't sure if we were going to like it or not but.......

We LOVED it!

Monday, 11 September 2017

Samantha and her flute came to visit.

Samantha is Ms. Bonsey's daughter and she came to school to help us today.  She helped us plant our seeds and then she showed us her flute and played us some lovely music.

Springtime in Room 57

September the 1st was the first day of Spring and so in Room 57 we decided to do some planting.
We used the process of planting the seeds to write instructions so others could also plant some seeds.

Here are a few of our stories:

First we need soil.  Next is the cress seeds, then you go back to get a second bit of soil.
- Rebekah

1.  First we get soil.
2.  next get some seeds.
 - Bella

First we put soil in.  Next we put seeds in.  Then we put more soil in.  The we put water.
- Kayden

Today we made puppets and retold the story using the puppets to room 57.

We had so much fun and learnt lots and lots.

Bones, bones, bones!

We have been learning lots about bones in Room 57.

Did you know we have more bones in our hands than in our feet?
And that the biggest bone in our body is our femur?

We used all the things we knew about bones to make a skeleton.  We worked in small groups to create our skeleton and we had to do lots of problem solving and talking to each other to make sure our skeleton looked right.

Discovering on a Friday afternoon

Today Room 5 and 7 children were given a challenge:

In you groups make a person using all the playdough and make sure the person is standing up!

What we found out is that our playdough person kept falling over.  After we all talked about it had a think we decided the reason we don't fall over is because we have BONES!

We then used straws as the bones and tried again to make our person - and guess what?

It worked!!!

The bones helped our playdough person stand up.

Assembly!

Today along with Room 13 we ran the school assembly.

Caleb, Kayden and Adelaide did us proud as they presented the Star Student awards and introduced the items during assembly.

We also showed the school the stars that we have been working on for Matariki.

Goodbye Miss Cole and Happy Birthday Tali

What a busy Friday with happy and sad all rolled into one.

First we had to say goodbye to the wonderful Miss Cole whom we all love very much.  We wish her every happiness and success on her new journey!

We then got the chance to share in Kinitali's 6th birthday celebration.
We sang Happy Birthday and then Tali shared pizza and ice-blocks with us all.
He was the perfect host and we wish Tali a very, very happy 6th birthday.

Kahurangi Maori Dance Company

We were so lucky to have the Kahurangi Maori Dance Company come to school today and perform for us.

They shared with us some Maori myths and legends while they sang and danced.

The music and dance were so beautiful and we felt very lucky to listen, watch and learn from these talented people.

Discovery Time Construction

Today during discovery time Ms. Bonsey gave us 30 straws, a roll of sellotape and a plastic egg filled with counters.

With our friends we had to construct a tower that would support our egg.
We worked so well in our groups and after much talk and trial and error - we did it!

(we do think Ms. Bonsey may need some more sellotape 😀)

Keeping Healthy.

In Room 5 we are always learning new things about how to keep ourselves healthy.

Miss Cole helped us set up an experiment to see what some drinks do to our teeth.

We used coke, milk, water and powerade and along with a piece of bone (our teeth) we placed each in a container.
We are going to observe them to see what these drinks will do to our teeth.

We have made a prediction and in several weeks we will check to see if we were right!

Welcome Back to Term 2!

Welcome back to Room 5!

We hit the ground running in Room 5 and we have all come back from our break ready to learn!
We have been sorting, classifying and comparing shapes and we really showed Ms. Bonsey our thinking skills as we sorted the shapes in lots of different ways according to their attributes.

Happy Holidays!

What a busy term and week we have had.

Today we have been at school for 52 days and boy have we worked hard, so today we thought we could have a little more fun than we normally do (because our learning is always fun).

We iced some biscuits so that they looked liked Easter Eggs - and then of course we ate them!

We also had an Easter Egg hunt so we had something to put in the baskets we made yesterday.

Have a lovely holiday everyone, don't forget to read, be kind to each other and get some rest, it will be another busy term next term I'm sure.

HAPPY EASTER from Room 57

A Special Visitor for Rimu

Today Rimu was lucky enough to meet Juliette MacIver an author who lives in Titahi Bay.  We have many of her books in our library and today she read us her new book about a Kiwi hunt that isn't even published yet!

We loved listening to her stories today.

  • Named Towel
  • Named plastic bag or swimming bag to hold clothes and their wet things
  • Goggles if you have them
You are welcome to come and watch at Cannons Creek Pool.  Room 5 begins our lessons at 1pm.

Ko Wai Au?

Who are we?

We have been learning about who we are in this time and place and today we gathered lots of things from around the playground and create a self-portrait using what we had found.

Look how creative we were!

We love to discover in the Rimu block, there is always so much to do.

What an awesome time we have at PMP every week.

We are learning lots of new skills that help us in all areas of our learning.

PMP is every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and we would love any mums, dads, aunties, granddads, cousins to come along and help us.
We start at 2 and finish around 2:45 so come along and join in the fun with RIMU!!!

GO! GLOW! GROW!

We were so lucky that Project Energizes Brianna came in to talk to us about the food that help make us Go, Grow, and Glow.

GO!    with 5 serving a day of grain foods

GLOW!  with 3 or more servings a day of vegetables and fruit

GROW! with 2 servings a day diary food

GROW! with 1 serving a day of meat.

Maths all about Room 5!

We have spent a lot of time getting to know each other in Room 5 and making new friends.  We thought we would like to find out some things about our friends and so we decided to ask our friends what their favourite things were.

We each drew pictures of our favourite toys, sports, colours and our favourite numbers!

We worked together in our shared numeracy books to sort, classify and display our results.
